RUNA (Demo)
A downloadable game for Windows
RUNA is a quiet survival game about a girl who doesn't speak, a train that is her only shelter, and a land where nothing is alive in the way it used to be.
The train runs in a loop through five dead places: a dry lake, a scrapyard, a burnt forest, an empty town and a farm. Every stop is a choice: step outside to search for food, coal and scrap, or stay in and keep moving.
- Keep the train alive. Shovel coal into the firebox, patch up the engine, keep the lights on. If the boiler dies in the dark, they come for the train.
- Keep yourself alive. Hunger, cold and exhaustion all want something from you. Cans are scarce; a hooked-up farm wagon lets you grow and cook your own food.
- There is no fighting. Each place has its own kind of creature and none of them can be killed. You hide, you carry a light, or you run back to the train.
- A clean screen. How Runa walks, shivers or curls up tells you how she is; a small icon only shows up when hunger, sleep or cold start to bite. A notebook left by the engine driver shows what to look for.
- Find a way out. Five parts, one per place, repair the switch at the junction. Along the way, what Runa remembers of home.
This demo is the whole of Chapter I: The Shelter.
